Leander ISD offers a top-notch education for area students and is continually adapting to encourage more innovative learning opportunities. While COVID-19 paused the 2019-20 school year, the board of trustees has been continuing to work to improve the school district’s upcoming school year. It has been nearly two years since talks initiated in hopes of revising the ISD’s classroom schedule, and a recent board meeting was ultimately fruitful in creating the change.
The 2020-2021 education season will witness a new bell schedule at all three level schools. To meet time requirements set by the state for instruction and to better administer high-level academic achievements, the board voted to expand the instructional time at all levels: high school lengthens by 10 minutes, and elementary and middle school will meet for an additional 5 minutes. The district has also added more time between the start and end of times of the middle school and high school to both relieve neighborhood traffic jams and address an ongoing bus driver shortage, giving drivers a chance to take on three routes instead of two.
The new bell schedule beginning August 13th, looks like this:
Elementary Schools: 7:40 am – 2:55 pm
Middle Schools: 8:10 am – 3:25 pm
High School: 8:40 am – 4:00 pm
A bell schedule committee made up of principles, office staff, trustees, and teachers have researched the issue extensively for more than two years, creating this final, approved schedule.
