The Leander City Council recently approved the city’s $199 million budget for fiscal year 2020-21. The budget includes funding for essential water infrastructure projects, capital improvement projects, and 23 new positions. The total budget increased by 17%, while the general fund rose by 8.7%.
Funds were included for positions in engineering, public works, finance, planning, and other departments. The City Council opted to fund the mid-year hires of four firefighters and four police officers.
A lower property tax rate of $0.536867 per $100 valuation was approved and based on an average Leander home value of $327,498, the average Leander homeowner would pay $1,758.23 for fiscal year 2020-21. This is an increase of $0.41 from the average property tax paid the previous year, due to rising home values combined with a lower tax rate. This is the seventh year of property tax rate decreases for Leander homeowners.
