Northline is a new downtown district coming to Leander. Located 26 miles north of downtown Austin, the 115 acres of the new development will feature restaurants, retail and residential, offices, hotels, and public gathering spaces. The City of Leander has approved $15 million in funding for public infrastructures like streets, utilities, and parks.
Its name comes from the Leander Transit-Oriented Development since it’s located near the MetroRail line’s northernmost end. The goal is to have Northline be the walkable trademark hub for our fastest-growing city.
Phase 1
As you can see from the phase one site map, residential (green), retail (orange), and parks and public spaces (light green) will make up most of the development. Retail is expected to take up 300,000 square feet. And residential will be made up of 2,000 apartments and 300 townhomes. 700,000 square feet will be office space and 150,000 square feet for hotel space. The remaining square footage is designated for amenities like a town square and park and civic spaces with water features, playscapes, and trails.
We can see from our photos that the park and public spaces are visible

Timeline
Northline is on schedule with starting the public infrastructure phase in Q1 2020.
The next phase is to have the Town Square development with retail and civic space complete by 2021. This phase will happen after the public infrastructure construction is mostly finished. The project is expected to be completed in 10 to 15 years. The Northline website expects completion by 2031.
Retail and Residential
The Hub entertainment venue is Northline’s first tenant. The Hub is a food, beverage, and entertainment venue. The Northline location will feature restaurants, bars, shops, a central lawn, a patio area, an event stage, and a jumbotron announcing daily and evening events.
Besides The Hub, Northline aims for various stores and shops, ranging from casual to fine dining. The development is quickly moving into the leasing phase and will announce tenants as they are secured.
While 2,000 apartments and 3000 townhomes are included in Northline, an additional 26,000 homesites are under development or planning in the Northline area.
