On December 3rd, Leander created a new economic development committee. The committee is returning to the city of Leander after joining the Leander Chamber of Commerce two years ago.
Its goal is to serve as a connection between Leander business community members, City Council members, and city staff. The committee’s job is to support, promote, encourage, and advocate for projects that will increase the city’s commercial tax base while also strengthening the local economy.
The committee will be composed of seven to 15 members. Preference will be given to Leander residents or business owners with professional experience in education, real estate, industrial, technology, nonprofit, small business, retail, banking, and utility sectors. City Council members will choose members the same way they select other city commissions. The committee will meet a minimum of once a quarter.
The committee’s purpose can be found here: https://www.leandertx.gov/edc/page/purpose Some tasks are:
- Identify changing economic trends and development
- Continuously review Leander’s regulations and zoning
- Support and encourage new and existing businesses
- Act as a course for business leads that will be brought to the City Staff liaison attention
Applications should be open soon and will remain open for four weeks. Get more information here: https://www.leandertx.gov/edc
