Leander Springs (http://leandersprings.com/ ), as it’s called, is the 78-acre development worth $1 billion and will create commercial and residential spaces and a hotel with a lagoon! It’s been months in the making but, it’s finally been approved by the Leander City Council! The council approved the vote in late January.
On October 15th, 2020, the city released a press release announcing the development. On October 22nd, 2020, they had their first public hearing with the Planning and Zoning Commission. They had a second public hearing scheduled for November 19th, 2020, but the City Council postponed it so the developer could gather more information. They resumed on December 17th, 2020, for the second public hearing. It was also the first reading of the ordinance by the City Council.
An issue the council was worried about: water. The council was concerned with the crystal lagoon, but they approved the agreement for water service for the lagoon. Per the approved agreement, there will be at least one private well to serve as the primary source of water. The city of Leander can serve as a backup due to evaporation losses of up to 200,000 gallons per day. A security deposit for the back is $15,000, and they will only fill the lagoon during off-peak irrigation periods in December, January, and February.
