Long-Awaited Senior Activity Center Breaks Ground In Leander, TX

Recently, leaders and community members gathered to celebrate the much-anticipated groundbreaking of the Leander Senior Activity Center, an idea that was birthed in 2011 through a needs assessment conducted by the City of Leander.

After 13 years of intense and collaborative planning efforts, the senior center is officially underway, and it will be located near the Leander Public Works building at 607-611 Municipal Drive. The center is anticipated to be the “hub for all the community’s activities,” as expressed by Active Adult Coordinator Sarah Mylcraine, and it will include:

  • Lobby with seating area and fireplace
  • Courtyard
  • Library with a coffee cafe
  • Game room and large-screen TV
  • Multi-purpose rooms; special-use offices and clinics
  • Fitness center
  • Commercial communal kitchen

The project, expected to cost about $8.8 million, is a testament to the community’s commitment to its seniors. It is funded by a variety of sources like the city’s May 2016 bond, general fund reserve funds, and certain reallocated funds from various projects, showcasing the collective effort in making this center a reality.
