A new commercial development may soon take shape at the southeast corner of Hero Way West and North Lakeline Boulevard in Leander.
At its November 7th meeting, the Leander City Council gave preliminary approval for zoning changes on approximately five acres of land at the site, paving the way for potential future commercial projects. With Mayor Christine DeLisle absent, the council unanimously approved the rezoning from single-family suburban to general commercial.
What Could Be Coming to the Site?
The zoning change opens the door for a variety of uses, including retail centers, gas stations, office spaces, restaurants, and other commercial ventures, according to city documents. A final vote on the ordinance is scheduled for November 21st.
Jennifer Jensen of Pohl Jensen, representing landowners John and Nancy Gilpin, shared details about the proposed development in a letter of intent. The vision includes retail stores, office spaces, dining establishments, and entertainment venues.
During the council meeting, Jensen further elaborated that the site plan features 8,500 to 9,000 square feet of single-story retail space and a convenience store ranging from 4,500 to 6,000 square feet. The development is expected to create approximately 60 new jobs in Leander.
Council Voices Support
Council member Chris Czernek expressed enthusiasm for the project, stating, “Activating that corner one way or another is good for the whole city.”
