While Austin, Cedar Park, and Georgetown have been expanding and earning the spotlight, Leander, TX has been keeping pace as one of the fastest-growing cities in the U.S. (according to data from the U.S. Census Bureau, it was the fastest-growing city from 2014-2015). With significant developments like the Northline Project breaking ground this year and bringing with it new jobs, retailers, residential areas, and offices, it’s no wonder this city is yearning to connect to major thoroughfares surrounding its more rural existence. On April 16th, the Leander City Council voted to add a momentous connection project to its “Leander Transportation Plan.”
The transportation plan outlines an addition of an arterial road connecting Hero Way with RM 2243, creating a more direct route from 183A in Leander to I-35 in Georgetown. According to the plan sheet from the council meeting’s agenda, the arterial roadway’s primary use is to facilitate large volumes of traffic between major traffic generators. They do not function to provide direct access to abutting property, and this new arterial will include controlled-access main lanes and frontage roads.
For Leander, arterial roadways mean carving out major thoroughfare that will allow large volumes of traffic to move swiftly through town, all the way to Georgetown. Ultimately, it will create a much stronger connection to I-35. Get all of the official details by clicking on the resource links below.
Proposed Thoroughfare Map Amendment
The amendments and plans were adopted at the April 16th, 2020 city council meeting.
