As our Leander community grows and prospers, it’s incredibly exciting to witness a master-planned development take shape from what was once a mere vision. This is especially true with Northline, 115 acres currently unfolding as Leander’s new downtown district. Envisioned as a unique setting where the charm of the Texas Hill Country infuses character into the project’s contemporary design, this destination district will include restaurants, retail, residential, office, hotels, and public gathering spaces. Because we believe it’s so important to be involved in the planning and changing of the Leander landscape, we’ll take a deep dive into Northline–from plans and vision to progress and photos–and we’ll continue to post updates throughout the years as the project progresses.
Technically an urban mixed-use community, the developer envisions that Northline will become the heart and soul of Leander. Located at the intersection of Hwy 183 and 183A, it’s nestled between St. David’s Hospital and the Austin Community College San Gabriel campus. Northline is the namesake of the northernmost end of the MetroRail line, at the heart of Leander’s Transit-Oriented Development (TOD).
While our community is tightly-knit and growing exponentially, there’s always been somewhat of a void when it comes to a true central, cultural destination district. That’s what makes Northline so special, and it’s also how the project has garnered support from the City of Leander, elected officials, and business and community leaders.
Northline includes 115 acres with 300,000 square feet of planned retail space, 700,000+ square feet of planned office space, 150,000 square feet of planned hotel space, 2,000 planned apartments, 300 planned townhomes, and other sought-after community amenities such as a town square, signature parks, and a civic space with water features, playscapes, and walking trails.
The project began to gain steam in the second quarter of 2018 and has continued to pass development milestones through today. In fact, the public infrastructure phase is in full swing. Once the public infrastructure is complete, the Town Square will soon follow, and it will include the retail core, flanked by civic space. The total buildout for Northline is expected to take 10-15 years, and we’ll be here to provide updates as the development progresses.
