A park in Liberty Hill’s Larkspur neighborhood will now be called Fisk-Cashion Park after the City Council unanimously approved the request to rename the park on March 27, 2024.
Many may not realize it, but the park was acquired several years ago and is now owned by the city of Liberty Hill. Recently, Mariann Fisk Laughlin, the great-great-great granddaughter of the remarkable Judge Greenleaf Fisk, approached the city’s parks and recreation board to seek to rename the park to preserve its rich history within her family’s legacy.
Back in the 1800s, Greenleaf Fisk was the first chief justice in Williamson County, Texas. Notably, he also set up the first county government, and Fisk and his father-in-law owned much of the land where Liberty Hill and Leander are now located.
During the 1800s, locals referred to the springs on the parkland property as “Cashion Springs.” Later, the property became the home of Ann Elizabeth Fisk Cashion, Greenleaf Fisk’s daughter, and the land remained as the family home and owned by the family for nearly 100 years thereafter.
The new name, Fisk-Cashion Park, also pays homage to the Fisk-Cashion Historic Cemetery, which is also on the park property. It includes the gravesites of Greenleaf Fisk’s first wife, Mary Ann Manlove Fisk and his second wife, Margaret Jane Manlove Lane Fisk and her baby.
